While as a filmmaker he is always trying out new digital technologies, the
photographer Wim Wenders refrains from using any of them. He prefers
analog cameras and works without artificial light or even a tripod. And his
essay in this book is also a passionate plea for an idea of photography where
everything is 4 real & true 2.
The catalog accompanying the retrospective contains recent photographs
– such as those taken near Fukushima following the nuclear disaster – as
well as photographs from the series Written in the West, Once, Pictures from
the Surface of the Earth, Journey to Onomichi, and photographs taken at
Ground Zero shortly after 9/11.
