Wim Wenders honoured with the European Film Academy’s 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award
“You never get an award from your own family, that doesn’t happen. This is a very special award for me because I’m getting it from you.”
With these words, Wim Wenders thanked the European Film Academy for awarding him the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 37th European Film Awards in Lucerne. Wim Wenders was a founding member of the Academy and served as its president from 1996 to 2020. In her laudation, Juliette Binoche, the current president of the Academy, paid tribute to Wenders’ contribution to European cinema: “Over the course of more than five decades, he created architectures in time that stick with you: Moving images, once seen, never forgotten.”
Wim Wenders’ presence in Lucerne also included a screening of the newly restored A TRICK OF THE LIGHT (1995), accompanied live by Laurent Petitgand, who wrote the music for the film, as well as a screening of THE SALT OF THE EARTH (2014).
