Two masters of world cinema, one unforgettable night
On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Wim Wenders joined Walter Salles for a pre-screening conversation before the 35mm presentation of Central Station (1998) at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
In the film Fernanda Montenegro gives a powerful, Oscar-nominated performance as Isadora, a bitter, retired teacher who makes a meager living writing letters for illiterate customers at Rio de Janeiro’s Central Station. She reluctantly accompanies a desperate nine-year-old boy into the countryside to search for his estranged father in this moving drama from director Walter Salles. Nominated for International Feature Film, Central Station boasts vivid widescreen cinematography that showcases the film’s remote Brazilian locations.
