Reading & Talk with Wim Wenders and Annette Reschke
Berliner Festspiele
On November 7, 2025, the director, photographer, and author will read from his new book ESSENTIALS at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
For Wim Wenders, who wrote his first film review before directing his first film, writing has remained an essential part of his work: „Only when I write can I fully think things through,“ he says.
Even at the age of 80, the creator of film classics such as PARIS, TEXAS and WINGS OF DESIRE, Oscar-nominated documentaries like BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB, PINA and THE SALT OF THE EARTH, as well as his recent celebrated feature film PERFECT DAYS, remains a seeker. Indeed, the search for meaning is characteristic of Wim Wenders‘ work. However, there are certain fundamental conditions that shape his creative process, and these are the focus of his new book. ESSENTIALS brings together four autobiographical essays: about music as an elixir of survival and a key player in his films, about the composition and arrangement of the image frame, about the loving gaze as a guiding principle to penetrate the essence of his characters, and finally about his realization of being a „practicing romantic.“
