By travelling to Hangzhou, China, to present its 2024/25 Métiers d’art collection, the House is exploring an essential component of Gabrielle Chanel’s imagination: the Chinese lacquer screens that inspired her all her life, and that still adorn the walls of her apartment at 31, rue Cambon in Paris. The one in her office depicts the city of Hangzhou and its legendary lake.

In a film starring House ambassadors Tilda Swinton and Xin Zhilei, and newly appointed House ambassador Leah Dou, director Wim Wenders imagines a contemporary and poetic journey through the Coromandel screens so dear to Gabrielle Chanel.

Since 2002, each CHANEL Métiers d’art collection celebrates the savoir-faire of the Maisons d’art at le19M, bringing together embroiderers, feather workers, paruriers, goldsmiths, pleaters, shoemakers, hatters and milliners, and bearing witness to the historic commitment of CHANEL to this exceptional craft heritage.
