GERMANY IS LAUNCHING ITS OWN OSCAR
Germany is bidding to burst onto the international
film circuit. The brand new German Film Academy aims to boost the
status of the countrys Lola award, which until
now has been the poor cousin of the Oscar. But the imitative is
not without controversy. At the moment the movement has recruited
around 100 of German cinemas top dogs. The line up includes...
well known actors Klaus-Maria Brandauer, Til Schweiger and Daniel
Brühl, as well as star directors Volker Schlöndorff, Wim
Wenders, Doris Dörrie and Detlev Buck. The Academy hopes it
will have at least 1,000 supporters within the Industry over the
next few years.

BONO PAYS TRIBUTE TO JOHNNY CASH
U2 frontman Bono has paid tribute to the
late Johnny Cash who passed away on September 18 at the age of 71.
"I considered myself a friend, he considered me a fan - he
indulged me"... Bono said in a statement. "He showed
me around his house, his ranch, his zoo (seriously, he had a zoo
in Nashville), his faith, his musicianship - it was a lot to take
in. He was more than wise. In a garden full of weeds - the oak tree."
U2 and Johnny Cash once recorded the song 'The Wanderer' together.
The song was not written for but used in the Wim Wenders movie 'Faraway,
So Close'.
