Filmmakers Alliance presents Wim with
The Annual Vision Award
Text from the 5th Annual Screening & Gala Party of the Filmmakers
Alliance at the Directors Guild Theatre on August 14th 2002.
"Created to recognize established filmmakers who have inspired
emerging filmmakers with their passion and pure creative ambition,
whose work rarely fails to reward us with a personal, distinctive
and challenging cinematic vision.
This year, we are extremely proud to present the award to director
Wim Wenders
Always poetic and never less than profound, the work of Mr. Wenders
strikes a chord deep within our unspoken selves. He paints worlds
rich with pain, romance, contradiction and stunning beauty, where
larger societal complexities share focus with the details of everyday
life, imbuing them with soul-shaking significance. From classics
like "Paris, Texas" and "Wings of Desire", to
'Buena Vista Social Club" to his oeuvre of European works,
his richly textured and vividly imaginative films reveal both a
vast intellect and preternatural sensitivity. Fiercely loyal to
his own filmmaking gifts, Mr. Wenders inspires emerging filmmakers
by boldly leading us on singular and compelling explorations to
the vast expanse of creative possibility".
