My favorite CDs these days
Manu Chao:
"Esperanza"
Can't get enough of it. Great music for driving, and if you need
something to cheer you up or wake you up, this is it....
Leonard Cohen
"Ten New Songs"
At first, I was slightly disappointed. Couldn't get over the constant
use of the tinny sounding drum machine. But then I started to
listen to the words, and the music kept growing and growing. Now
I'm hooked. 10 fabulous classic songs, worthy of his best work.
The Smashing Pumpkins
"Greatest Hits"
This is a 2-disc set, and disc one "Rotten Apples" isn't
rotten at all, but really their greatest stuff. Which you might
already know. Only that disc two "Judas O" which calls
itself "a collection of B-sides and rarities" contains
10 unreleased tracks, one better then the other, and all of them
make that second CD my all-time favorite of theirs. So you don't
have to just go for the rotten apples, go for the delicious mangos...
And even if I am repeating myself from my last list. It is unforgivable
if you still don't know
Sam Phillips'
"Fan Dance".
My
favorite books these days
Louise Erdrich:
"Love Medicine"
It was recommended to me by Sam Shepard. And like always when I
discover a new writer, I compulsively read every-thing else she
(or he) has written. So I have also devoured "Tracks"
and now I'm in the middle of "The Beet Queen". Her books
are all stories about the lives of American Indians. She is half
Indian herself. And she writes fantastic stuff.
