Franz Lustig, born 1967 in Freiburg/Germany, began his work as a freelance camera assistant and editor for various production companies on various projects and genres. In 1991 he was one of the first students of the Film Academy of Baden-Württemberg in its first year and in 1996 obtained a degree in the category “advertising”. Since 1994 Franz Lustig has been working as director of photography for advertising and music videos with some of the leading directors, i.e. Tarsem, Wim Wenders and Ralf Schmerberg, with whom he has a long relationship. Franz Lustig earned many awards for his advertising cinematography, among others for Nike (“Horse”, ”Running against the bulls”) and twice in a row in the German Video Clip Award an award as Best Camera. In 1998 he won the “Förderpreis der Filmstiftung NRW“ for camera and editing, a prize of the film foundation of Northrhine-Westphalia to foster young talent, for „Hommage a Noir”. After some short films (highly acclaimed “Fragile)” and documentaries ,he finished his second feature film with Wim Wenders, “Don’t come Knocking” which was shot in Montana, Nevada and Utah summer 2004, starring Jessica Lange, Sam Shepard and Tim Roth, shot in anamorphic cinemascope. His first feature “Land of Plenty”(directed by Wim Wenders) premiered at the 2004 Venice Film Festival. His most recent documentary project “2, or 3 things, ..” by Malte Ludin about life and death of his Nazi-father and about the difficulties of the whole family living with this past, The film earning a lot of attention in germany at the moment .
